Eight Small Lights is the counting book of the Hanukkah set. One more candle a night, one more warm thing in the room, and nothing else asked of the reader. It is the right choice for a toddler and for a family reading the same page every evening for a week.

Nought to eight, though it is really a book for two to five. Counting to eight is the spine of it, so a child who can already count past twenty will find it slight unless it has become the family ritual. Reading level low is better here; the repetition is the point rather than the vocabulary.
