A peek inside

How the adventure unfolds

These are just sample lines. Your book is written fresh for your child - their name woven through every page, with the words, sentence length and tone tuned to their age, and shaped by the story, interests and details you choose.

A window on the last night of the year, coat still on, watching the street fill up.
Chapter One

The Last Night

Under a glittering sky, your child watched the old year sparkle its final, happy goodbye.

A window on the last night of the year, coat still on, watching the street fill up.

The wish being made with both eyes shut while the sky goes off overhead.
Chapter Two

A Wish for the Year

Your child closed both eyes and made a hopeful wish for all the days still to come.

The wish being made with both eyes shut while the sky goes off overhead.

The first morning of the new year, entirely empty, with the whole thing still to do.
Chapter Three

A Bright New Start

As the new year began, your child felt ready for a whole world of wonderful firsts.

The first morning of the new year, entirely empty, with the whole thing still to do.

These three sample the opening, middle and ending of a 12-chapter book. All twelve are drawn with your child in them when the book is made: the cover and chapter one free in your preview, the remaining eleven once you order.

Is this the one?

Who Hello, New Year! is for

Hello, New Year! is for the evening itself and works best read before a child is too tired to take it in. It treats the turn of the year as something a child can have an opinion about: a wish, a plan, a sky full of things that have not happened yet. Bought late December, read once, remembered.

Two to eight. A three-year-old needs the fireworks and little else. From about six a child can hold the idea of a year as a length of time, and the wish chapter starts to carry weight. Reading level chosen at setup adjusts how abstract the last chapter becomes.

For Guy, whose wish last year was for a dog and who is still negotiating.
