Who Space Travel is for

Space Travel suits the child who wants to know how a thing works before they want to know who else is in the room. The countdown gives a reluctant reader something to do on the first page - numbers to say out loud before a single sentence has to be read. Parents reach for it most often for a fifth or sixth birthday, and for the fortnight before a child starts something that frightens them a little.

Written for 4 to 8, and the span is real rather than a hedge. A four-year-old follows the countdown and the pictures. A seven-year-old gets the part the younger ones miss: that the way home is the harder half of the journey. Sentence length and vocabulary are set by the reading level you pick during setup.
