The window starts when you APPROVE the book, not when you pay - you read the whole thing first and nothing goes to print until you say yes. So leave a fortnight for a birthday and three weeks for Christmas, and you will be comfortable rather than refreshing a tracking page.
It is a wider window than the six days a UK order takes, and the reason is distance rather than anything clever: Canada is a large country and the ground carrier crosses a lot of it.
