For Canadian kindergartens, childcare centres and elementary schools

Graduation books for a JK or SK class

One personalised hardcover for every child finishing kindergarten, each the hero of their own story. Printed in Canada, one parcel to the school.

Senior Kindergarten finishes in late June and the children go to Grade One, and the question a Canadian school actually asks first is not about the book - it is whether anything gets held at the border. Nothing does. These are printed in Canada and sent by domestic ground.

No duty, no brokerage, nothing held at the border

The books are printed in Canada - Gelato runs nine facilities here - and shipped domestically, so delivery is 9 to 11 days from the moment you approve the class and there is nothing to pay on arrival.

That matters more for a school than for a family. A cross-border parcel of thirty books can arrive with a duty bill and a brokerage fee addressed to the office, after the budget line has already been signed off, and no principal enjoys that conversation.

Working back from the end of June

Delivery is 9 to 11 days once the class is approved, and collecting a photograph from every family realistically takes a fortnight because that part depends on them. So send the parent links in the first half of May.

A class started in June will not arrive before the last day. We would rather say that here than take the order.

Who this suits

Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes finishing for Grade One, licensed childcare and daycare centres marking the children who are leaving, and elementary schools doing something for a graduating year. The minimum is five children.

It is not an autograph book and it is not a class photo. It is a twelve-chapter illustrated story in which the child holding it is the one who does the brave thing.

The book is in English, which matters here

Written and illustrated in English only. For a maternelle, a French-immersion class or a francophone school board, that is a reason not to order rather than a detail to discover afterwards - a four-year-old handed a book in the wrong language is worse than no book.

If a class is mixed, ask the families rather than deciding for them. Under the families-pay option each parent chooses for their own child anyway, which handles it without anybody having to raise it.

The school pays, or the families do

You choose at the start. If the school funds it, the books are a leaving gift and any child whose family never sends a photograph is refunded to you when you print the rest.

If families fund it, the school spends nothing and carries no risk: each parent buys their own child's book from the link you send, and the single delivery charge is split evenly across the class.

Prices are charged in US dollars and your card converts - about $39.47 a book for a class of ten and $36.47 for thirty.

Common questions

Will the school be charged duty or a brokerage fee?

No. The books are printed in Canada and shipped domestically, so nothing crosses the border and nothing is collected on delivery. The window is 9 to 11 days from approval.

When should we order for the end of June?

Send the parent links in the first half of May. Photograph collection from families takes about a fortnight, and printing and delivery is another nine to eleven days from the moment you approve the class.

Is the book available in French?

Not yet - English only. For a maternelle, a French-immersion class or a francophone board, that is a reason to wait rather than a detail to find out about afterwards.

What is the minimum for a small JK room?

5 children. A small room is an ordinary order rather than an exception.

Are prices in Canadian dollars?

No - charged in US dollars and your card converts. About $39.47 US a book for a class of ten and $36.47 at thirty, plus one delivery charge for the whole parcel.
